>I like you - use Dabo.
Yup, I remember we talked on their forum :)
>The biggest issue with Python that others bring up is speed. For the type of stuff we do, speed is NOT the issue. But even Python is getting much faster with python versions 3.11 and 3.12. For the developer - vs code is free and has all the bells and whistles. Python runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac's (Dabo does too).
Speaking of FTP and speed - I use python partially to maintain my website. Since it's entirely read only, nothing interactive thee (save the
solitaire), I simply generate pages and FTP them. For that I have three ways: for individual pages, fox and code written as wrappers around the windows API function - downoladed for here and wrapped around to keep the syntax same as it was for Chilkat; bulk transfer from DoubleCommander - when I have hundreds of files to copy because I changed something in the code, and individual pages from Dabo. And guess what, Dabo is faster in FTP by a factor of about 20 over the same connection. Can't explain. Even if we say „ah, from fox it's all simulated in wine“ - well, in DoubleCommander it isn't, it's a native app. I don't know what kind of magic python does there, but it works like one.
