Hi Al,

Your first 2 sentences are right on the mark. Link saved!
Nods on hardwiring access points, minimizing via boxes with POE,
setting up VLANs and the global view of the total network.

I am happy with my 5 router config, as routers cost nothing compared to professional HW
and profiles with security needs are totally different for each used router,
having a router cascade makes sense and I have enough Guest networks for
the minimal smart home uses I have. But if heating gets smarts (which might be reasonable)
and video is added for parking space control, HW like the Uniqiti with VLAN
with access points might make sense. Uncertain if the global network view is really used
(after setup) and I'd probably still opt for smaller POE switches on each floor instead of that massive cable trunk...
So electricity saved would probably be minimal, even if our current is 2nd most expensive in EU.

Thx for the link, HW tip and a well thought out plan for heavy usage needs!

>Ubiquiti UniFi is a leader in this space. Some things Dave doesn't mention:
>- Equipment is reasonably priced
>- UniFi does not require an expensive support contract or permanent subscription to cloud services to keep it running (looking at you, Cisco Meraki)
>- Good documentation and community support. Configurable by mere mortals
