Sadly, you're right, and the reasons are so enormously complex.

Recently, there was a very cruel exchange between the parents of one of my daughter's friends and another friend.
It happened at a birthday party, of all places.

I witnessed it. The kid on the receiving end did nothing wrong, but the parents went ballistic and said some things that were shocking and racially-charged. It wound up scaring the hell out of some other kids, and led to some other equally nasty comments from other parents.

I get very frustrated when we have issues in our local public school system of bad student behavior - but let's face it, they learn at least some of it from adults.
