Hi Jayesh,
Avi here, currently I am into training of MCIS and am mailing to u from microsoft Bombay. Since u want to start with VB and SQL and not intreseted in VFP. First if all, u should be comfortable with SQL Server, since it's implementation and administration is much more different from VFP databases.
After u r comfortable with SQL , it is just a matter of using VB as frontend, in this case VB will be acting as a UI for the application. Now, the role of VB will be interfaciong with SQL, this can be done by using Data access components like RDO and ADO. In previous case of VFP, VFP was managing the entire thing. Now the database part is managed by SQL. U have to be very clear in ur data design in SQL.
The better advice for u is to start using VFP 6.0 as it has beautifull and nice features for database development.
VB is generally used to build Windows specific applications.
Bye
Avi
