I just went and found the settings. They were actually done via the connection settings on the remote view in the VFP database. You may find them on the connection settings on the server (I'm not sure).

The settings were: Asynchronous Connection - this bumped it up to 30kph and then Automatic Transactions bumped it up further. (I just discovered that this has since been disabled on my connection?? - I've had further problems during testing so I can't say I've noticed any speed difference). I've now got to find out why my log file is full.
