Title:
Win95,winNT, getprinter()
I have a system that runs on a NT server. There are many clients - some run win95 some run winNT workstation. I would like to allow the users to specify which printer certain reports print to and store this information in a table. However, the GETPRINTER() function on an NT machine returns the network path of the printer (\\server\printer) while the GETPRINTER() function on the win95 machine returns the name given to the printer when it was setup on the machine. According to the help SET PRINTER TO NAME \\server\printer will only work on the NT machines.
So if the printer specified for report1 is specified using a NT machine the win95 machines will not work correctly. The alternative is to use GETPRINTER() every time a report is run but I am trying to avoid that.
Any ideas of a way around this?
Happy Holidays
