We use Visual Cafe 2.0 Web Development Edition. We developed a framework based on java.awt. Basically, all control classes are java beans and we want to have them on a special toolbar.
Until here, everything is ok. We found several minor problems (some of them are bugs agnowledged by Symantec), but I could work around them. I have two major problems until now:
1. We have several classes based on symantec.awt.itools derived from TreeView, TreeNode and FormattedTextField. TreeView and TreeNode have some serious design problems. Some of them can be fixed in the derived classes, some require changes in Symantec's classes. Until now I haven't made any changes to the original classes, but, my concern is that Symantec accepted bugs (in other classes in the same package) and their resolution is "Will not fix". !!
2. The code generator generates one or several incorect and useless code lines for our checkbox class. This is a bug and it is very easy to reproduce with any class derived from java.awt.Checkbox. Still, I have no reply from their tech support after 1 week. Needless to say that this is a really PITA, because, each time we do any change to a form that contains our checkbox, we have to find and delete those wrong lines, etc.
Reading their on-line tech support, it seems that many other problems remain unanswered as well. I just hope they will improve it... because right now I am a little upset... :(
In the mean time, if you don't need your own framework... Visual cafe works great for GUI.
