The way I read it was that Ned's answer was lost and Fred's use of "he" referred to Ted (not Ned). And nobody heard poor Ned (who's probably always being overlooked). So given that, if Fred is telling the truth (that he is blue) then Ted is lying (when he says he's blue) and is, therefore red, as is Fred. Because if Fred is lying then Ted is NOT blue. So, actually, I shouldn't have said "Ned" (poor Ned) and seen that you hadn't give us all the pieces.
