I'm using assign methods to make read-only properties in
my business objects. Of course, the the object has to set
these values, so I have an accompanying logical property
that that determines the readability of the 1st property.
This readability property is hidden. So, to the user of
the object - if they try to make a change to the value...

... KABOOM!

Ok, maybe not THAT catestrophic, but nevertheless, I find
it rather effective.
