I thought you would appreciate a reply I got from Jim Booth about 5 months ago concerning the same thing, using reserved words.

I made the comment,
"But I can use other reserved words for fieldnames."

Jim replied with,

At your own peril. Fox has never been strict about reserved names and probably never will, but you sure can get into trouble when using them.

The analogy that I use in my classes is, "You can shoot yourself in the head with a gun, but just because you can doesn't make it a good idea to do it."

I agree with you that desc is a great fieldname for a field that contains description information. I was using "group" to describe group information. But it led to the same surprises.
