Is Visual SourceSafe still activated in the Tools|Options|Project dialog? Or did the default database of VSS change? You can open the SourceSafe Explorer and choose Open Database (CTRL+P). Then select the proper database, enter username and password and choose "Open this database the next time I run Visual SourceSafe". In VSS Admin in the Tools|Options dialog is there the option "Use network name for automated user log on" activated? And does your network name match the user name in SourceSafe?
