To retreive email you can use the Internet control and the POP3 protocol.
Things get difficult when you must send or retreive an attachment. You must use something like the MIME protocol to convert a file from binary to text so that it can be send without problems.

I'd suggest buying a control that incorporate SMTP, POP3 and MIME.
