>I can see that there might be a point to showing users the disabled items so they don't wonder where they've "disappeared to." But, I think that simplifying the interface is more important. Why show someone a list of "choices" they can't choose? Plus the smaller a cbo/list is, the more efficient it is.

Nancy,

Normally I would agree with you 100% (200%? Do I hear 300%...?), but I think if you have a situation where the user may become confused, it is better to leave the disabled items in the list, even though it (1) takes more room on the form (2) requires more code to get around the keypress bug and (3) is just plain uuugly.

I have one of those. Working with old time printers developing an automated print estimating package (by old time, I mean one of these guys has got to be Guttenber's son in law) -- they always want to see everything in the list -- even stuff they cannot choose -- just so they can assure themselves that the program is in fact making correct choices. I think this is a legitimate user concern, and accomodated it.

Like the man says, it all depends on the pony.
