I think most of us have had problems making incremental search work in comboboxes. YOu might increase the _DBLCLICK interval to see if that helps.
Most developers seem, however, to have implemented one of the texbox/combobox or textbox/grid combination controls to create a custom control for incremental searching.
Look in the files section here under VCX for three or four examples.
