Just to quibble:

>"Hello World! 123... Hi"  -> " Hello World Hi "

should be -> " HELLO WORLD         HI "

p.s. Nice function. Might be useful to drop the upper(), add "a...z" to the chrtran() string. Doing this gives the option of using atc() for case insensitive searches and at() for case sesitive searches.
