check out VNC, http://www.orl.co.uk/vnc/

it is a free alternative to PCAnywhere. IMHO it is less invasive, plus the server will run on UN*X or NT, and the clients will run on UN*X / Win / Mac / Java, and a client in development for the PalmPilot. you can mix and match the client/servers. I have used this proggie for close to a year, on and off, and have been very satisfied with it.
