If you have an ATAPI device, including hard drives and CD-ROMs, access to them is virtualized through the SCSI miniport driver; IOW, there's an ATAPI driver, but access to devices controlled by it are accesed as if they were scsi devices. If you're accessing the drive enough to get this recorded in the event log, the drive with the system and boot partition is operating normally; this could be an indication that an IDE CD-ROM drive is not functioning properly.

Both NetWatcher from the NT Resource Kit, and Server Manager, part of the normal administrative tools on the NT system, will display this information. You can terminate connections through Server Manager.
