We do have a "vendor #" field, which I guess I might also be able to use. I'm actually going to be printing parts labels, so I'd like them to be able to figure out who the original vendor was w/o having to look it up because their isn't enough information on the (small) label.

I think I'm just going to live with a nonprop. font instead. A little uglier, but it solves the problem (and no one has seen how they're going to look except me).
