>I started in Delphi 1.0 3.5 years ago and have been in VFP for 6 months. Many similarities, but Delphi has a choice of 4 different editors (not M$ Word) built in as well as 3rd party like Multi-Edit. The delphi community is as open and helpful as this forum. You'll find that most components and samples come with source code. If you don't understand what's happening under the table, you can usually just trace into all of the code (as long as it's within the scope) and see what's happening.

>Delphi is a red-headed step child, just like VFP. Neither get the press and attention they deserve. Their developers wonder when the death knell will sound. Delphi has always been a compiled executable, no runtimes required. The BDE is large, but works reasonably well. Many 3rd party tools to interface to all sorts of databases. Client/Server tools are over $2000. Get the mid-priced product. The cheapest version leaves out a lot.

Mike,
thanks a lot for your information It probably explains why Delphi appealed to me in the first place ( I must like red-heads ), however I don't think VFP's going to get dumped, now it's part of Studio, is Delphi part of a suite?, once again thanks for your help
