Jim,

I've only just come across this. I have installed an extensive network at home and had similar problems. One point I can't find in the thread, can you see your own machine in network neighborhood (can it see itself)? Does it take long to search the network? If others can see the machine but not access it, I have had this before and it drove me NUTS - it turned out to be a dodgy connection - I was using screw-on connectors and just unscrewed and screwed back on again. Apparently, it takes a quick signal to see other machines but a lot more traffic to talk to them. If it takes a long time to search the network, again it could be cable problem where the signal is being *lost*. Although it could be protocol/frame conflict. I have not installed 98 on any machine yet so I can't comment on this. I do have five PCs linked all over my house and have had this problem mostly with my neighbors connection (two houses away) where his connection is on the end of my setup. Another thing I have found is that patch leads can cause this - I tried using long patch leads instead of plugging the T connector directly into the card - saw other PCs but could not access them. I will be home in a couple of hours and will send you all my settings. I have NT Server and W95 on my home network.
