Hi Mark,

On the strength of many words like your I surely will be looking into a small HUB and twisted pair.

The only reason that I am even on coax is that my net was initially 2 machines and the cable (RJ45 or whatever it is called) did not have that special crossover (which I only heard about much later) which apparently is required in such a setup. I understand that a 'normal' cable is all that is required when a HUB is involved.

If you decide to keep it, remember that when troubleshooting, the first thing is to reduce the size of the network to isolate the problem. In your case, since you only have 3 pcs, remove one from the physical network connection to isolate cable/connector/terminator problems.
