Thanks for the reply - glad I'm not alone!!

I think my problem is slightly different though, as I get the 'Record is in use.....' message as soon as I attempt to change the values of the second field after selecting a value from the combo, not on TABLEUPDATE() like you.

I think I may have narrowed it down a bit though. We have a couple of read only fields in the grid from a foreign file. If I remove these, the problem goes away. I can't see how these columns should cause the problem though.

If I get any further, I'll let you know!
