Hardware failure at it's best *L*, like Ed recommends I wouldn't have the printer on the UPS in the first place.

It seems that printing required just enough extra power to reset the power somewhere. I suspect the UPS is resetting. We unplugged everything but the one computer and printer, and everything worked great! I don't know too much about electrical systems, but it sounds to me they have a bad UPS. Anyway, thought I would share this with you. It certainly isn't something I would have thought of.
