Yes - VPN is Virtual Private networking; it provides a secure connection using the Internet to route packets for your network. It's built into 98, and can be added to NT 4, and probably to Win85 as well; you'd need to check Microsoft's Recommended Windows Updates to see what the options are to update your operating system.
