Some open-ended questions...

1) Is the VFP community strong enough to develop VFP further if we had access to the source code?

2) What are the chances of selling Microsoft on turning VFP into an open-source test case?

3) Anybody interested in this?

My answers:

1) Not me, but I know some of us are very good. Maybe some of the original Foxbase creators (Dave Fulton ?? et al) would be intrigued by such a project. And perhaps some of the MS guys like Ken Levy would do a little moonlighting.

2) MS has a way of jumping on the bandwagon if they think its rolling and can't be sidetracked into a ditch (e.g. GUIs, Web, Java). They could get quite a bit of PR brownies for a significant contribution to the open-source movement. Also they might be able to free up some key VFP personnel for other projects (SQL, VB, etc.) if responsibility for further development was shared.

3) Philosophically I would love to see this happen. Perhaps there would be some small niche that I could contrihute to.
