It's good to know that DAO does not support multithreading (ie only one thread of a process can use the DAO engine at any moment of time). That means DAO can be used only in applications that do not use components (unless the components are guaranteed to not use DAO) and it's not suitable for components (unless you know exactly the architecture of the programs using your components). When these facts are not known, ... it's better to not take the risk.
Since VFP is single-thread, this seems to not be a big issue now. But it can be a problem as soon as multi-threading support will be available in VFP and you would have to change your code...
