I said that wrong. The correct statement should be..
I would make this distinction between shadowtext (or prompttext) and defaulttext.
Defaulttext suggests the value to be entered and is the program's best estimate of the correct value. Shadowtext suggests the kind or type of value to be entered -- similar to a tooltip.
