1) not really. It depends what you consider as 'big number'.
2) This is more important issue. The known proposition, that keeping development on strictly 'local view only' approach will open the easier road to migration to Client-Server, is moot point. Firstly, if you plan to make C/S system why not to start doing this immediately (all components are available). If you still thinking about file-server system then local_view approach will in some sense downgrade system abilities in regard to speed and GUI versatility.
