Thanks for those, should keep me busy 'til it be morrow'! That's a lot more than I expected in one reply!

What do I think in comparison?? - There is NO comparison (either way). I have written some apps in C++Builder (and previously TurboC++). I have just got hold of Delphi3 C/S Suite (I also deal with SQL Server). I believe in 'the right tool for the right job'. Have just written my first app in Delphi which searched directories for 'out of date' files - why use VFP (database management) for such a low level task. It takes twenty seconds to run in Delphi - I can't imagine how long VFP would take what with loading all the DBM libraries! However, VFP is VERY powerful for database management (I know people who have written some neat games in VFP) but why stick to one language. I'm far more valuable knowing multiple languages!

BTW; is there a standard equivalent for the DirectoryListBox and FileListBox - Delphi says not to use as they may not appear in future releases. I find these two invaluable (in both Delphi and C++Builder) - to have such a tool discarded seems silly to me!
