You're going to love this!! What I neglected to mention (because I didn't think it important -- although it obviously was) was that I was creating this application in a folder on my C drive. The data was out in a folder on the network (V:). When I moved the application to V (in a different folder from the data but both of them on V) the problem went away. The screens are gone and it's working beautifully!!!
I don't get it. But it works.
