SYS(0) and ID() will work, but they return different things in different OSs, and are not considered completely dependable. The most dependable way is with a 3rd party network query tool like GPLib.

Another alternative is the Windows Scripting Host, it already installed on late OSs, and for older versions of windows, you just have to install the OCX. You can learn about the scripting hist at the MS Scripting page- http://msdn.microsoft.com/scripting/
