Seriously - I never used Browse in an application because you couldn't integrate it with a foundation read without jumping through hoops.

I'm not surprised that the problem is related to older well established features :-)

My skip,skip-1,refresh() works, I'm going to try out Michel's suggestion and see if it's faster.
