Thanks for the advice but I'm afraid that's not the case in this instance... The save button is actually on the form and I have verified by stepping through with the debugger that my routine is looking at the right set of controls it's just that both the control.value and the oldval(control.controlsource) reflect the new value and therefore appears to the routine as if nothing has changed.
