To add to what some others have said, I have cleared up a very similar problem on a peer to peer network by removing the TCP/IP protocol and replacing it with NetBEUI. I think the problem was specific to the users network card (a generic card using the generic NE2000 driver) because the same program runs at other locations using TCP/IP without problems. At least its a cheap and easy thing to try.
