Well, it gets curioser and curioser. I just duplicated the problem with a simple program which basically dumps records into a file. I am getting approximate three times faster throughput on a Win NT 4.0 workstation versus a Win 98 workstation that is sitting right next to it. To compare,
WIN NT has 64 MB RAM, 98 has 128 MB RAM
WIN NT is a Pentium 200, 98 is a P II 400
Both machines are Gateways
Transaction throughput is:
WIN NT 1000 records in 2.5 seconds
WIN 98 1000 records in 7.32 seconds
The speed is fairly consistent as I let the record count go.
>>1. VFP 5 (latest version)
>>2. Transaction Loop - Happening in an import -- get a record, run the posting program, get the next record, run the posting program, etc. (and no, I didn't write it).
>>There is a screen alive when it happens but the screen is just sitting there, not doing anything.

Are the Win98 boxes running a virus scanner or anything different that could be slowing down the system? Is the networking and network cards set up the same (no extra protocols).
