Do you know how many people work at Microsoft? Your client might have been talking to a cook at the cafeteria.
I guess it would be best to get a name and phone number/extension when someone says something to you that might affect your business. If your client did this, maybe you could call the person and see where he/she gets his information. I would bet that your client wasn't talking to anyone at MS who has any inside information (other than what will be on the lunch menu next Monday).
