It's conceivable that Word iterates through it's own collections on a global search/replace. And there may be an eaiser way of doing it in code, I'm pretty much still a novice at the Word object model.

>Thanks, I got it working, with a little extra code. I wonder why programmatically the shape box is different than if I opened the doc up in word97 and told it to replace all. That works and even shows me the VB script to use when I record the macro, but the code fails when I try to program it.
