I should have qualified that. In the cases that I have come across that might warrant a SET FILTER, the situation was a one-many, and the filter was for child records that might need to be displayed in a grid now or later. So I should have said: Filters are slow almost to the point of being useless when the data must be displayed in a grid.
Most cases where you might want to use a filter lend themselves nicely to a prameterized view.
The exception, and the common place that I do use SET FILTER is for lookup lists being displayed in Listboxes or combos.
