Take a look at the MSComm control. It let's you communicate with the serial ports. You can either create an instance of it programmatically, or just drop the OLE control onto a form and select Insert Control then "Microsoft Communications". If you right click on the icon that looks like a phone, you should see some of the properties available to you. You should also be able to find more info. at Microsoft's web site. The docs for Visual Basic and VFP are nearly identical.
