By golly, you're correct, they don't work well at all. If I put F10, it goes to the File menu and doesn't execute the command. If I put Alt+F10, it asks me what macro I want to play :) Maybe it's going to the _screen menu - you could try shutting that off and see what happens...
I've only used shortcuts thus far. Looks like you might need to work around this with ON KEY LABELor something, or stick with shortcuts...did you check the MS KB?
