I don't know if I got your question right. Me base classes all have a property called AssociatedLabel. I use it mainly with security: if a control is not visible I don't want it's label to be visible. But I've used it for all sorts of things.
I've kept the property in 6.0 too. I still have to find a way to document _assign and _access methods.
