Add a public variable (or any other switch like the existence of a small file). In the activate method you can check for this switch. If you're working with a framework like Visual MaxFrame there are usually 'developer switches' built in.

In my non-VMF apps I have a public variable which is part of my startup procedure in VFP, but is specifically released in the MAIN.PRG so it is never available in the compiled program.
