That's a long way to go for a job. It makes sense if you've seen the area and like it there. I have only passed through, and stayed overnight. Whether El Paso is a good place to look for a job depends on what your husband does, and whether he likes El Paso. I don't think it has a big high tech sector. Oh, well, I'm always telling people what to do :-O .

>The job is in Las Cruces, just above the border. The average winter temp according to their statistic was 50 or 60 something. It's close to El Paso, so there's a possibility my husband could get a job there. I don't need to look for a job. The whole point in moving there is that I have a job there. :)

>>Santa Fe (7000 feet/2300 meters) and other high-elevation areas in Northern New Mexico get pretty cold in winter, though not as cold as your native Wisconsin. I think that Santa Fe (and probably Taos, but I haven't seen it) is the most desirable place to live there, because the town itself is pretty, unlike most Western towns I've seen. But that makes it more expensive. I don't know where the better computer jobs are in NM. Perhaps our colleague could enlighten us. Albuquerque doesn't look too prosperous, and the other cities are small.

>>>Well, the job there is supposed to pay more than my job here. I don't know about general COL, but the houses are cheap. Plus, there's no winter. A big plus for me.

>>>>>>Don't feel bad Michelle. I make 10K with 8 years programming/developing in C and 2 years VFP. But, I can also buy a kilo of king prawn for about 3US, and the average sit down meal is about a dollar. My house is a short walk from the beach and rents for 50US per month. I drive a motorbike and have no car, credit cards, utility bills, gas expenses, comuter time, traffic headaches, etc. I think it's a matter of what you want out of life. Personally, I had my fill of being under paid while living in an expensive country like the US. I found that a family living on 30K(-35% tax) a year is just above the poverty level, even in Boise Idaho. I'd rather be sitting under a coconut tree than fighting that war. Go get more money.
