Sum Taam is like eating fire. Most westerners won't touch it. I love it. You can probably get it in a Lao restaurant. BTW, don't be fooled by the food in a Thai restaurant, it's not really Thai style most of the time. Most of the places I've been to in the US when spoke to in Thai language they say, "Hey man, I'm chinese".
Famous quote: When asked how he would solve the economic crisis in Thailand, then prime minister Chevalit responded: "We should open more Thai restaurants."
>I will do that. We have some good Thai restaurants around too. A few good Loatian restaurants too. So is Sum Taam very hot? I like hot Thai food, but sometimes it takes me a while to eat the real hot stuff...and a lot of water :-)

>Sometimes I think people concentrate on how hot Thai food is too much...I like to concentrate on how good it tastes!

>>>Anyways, I want to go live in Thailand or Laos for at least a few months sometime. I am interested in the culture and I think a week-long visit won't give me the perspective that I would like.

>>No Dought. 1 or 2 weeks only leaves basically the wrong impression.
>>Ask them to make you some Sum Taam sometime. Green Papaya salad with chili peppers.
