Thanks for replying Mat,

Open forms do not seem to be the problem. These items
are disabled even at app start (no form open - just a
menu and the toolbar). Any other ideas? Thanks.

>Both of these options are disabled if you have any forms open. Close all forms and then they should be active. As far as I know, it has always worked this way. Since you are changing the .dbc location or packing/reindexing tables, you really don't want anything open.
