Is there a downside to not using the DE? I, too, use form classes exclusively. This goes back to my days of using Codebook for VFP 3.0. I read in the documentation somewhere that DE's are very slow in loading, especially with large record sets. Since then, we have been creating "mock" DE loader methods linked to a form classes that issue the regular USE, SET RELATION, etc. and all the other things required. Is using USE now considered passe?
Out RI is maintained in the DBC, and granted, we have had to code a little bit to enforce the rulres on the form, but it has never been a tough exercise. I am just curious as to whether we are using a reasonable approach or not.
Obviously there have been great performance improvements since VFP 3.0, and I wonder if these improvements apply to the DE as well? We seem to have carried our approach over through VFP 5 and right into VFP 6.
Any thoughts here?
Phil
