I don't know why you can not set focus to another object in the DblClick of the grid textbox. It works fine for me. I know of no way to prevent the "I" cursor from appearing over the grid. Someone may be able to suggest some WinAPI function that could change that particular mouse pointer to *no cursor*. Then you would have to reset it back to the default after leaving the grid.
