I found that if you use the icon option you do not have a problem with page size in word, and other advantages. I also think that displaying the icon on the from looks nice and just double click and it opens...

I do not use FPT files but SQL 6.5 for reliability also the project is that the customer can attach any document to a specific job and share that info on the network regardless of path, mapped drive etc....
