I've had problems with a number of video cards baded on the same chipset used in the Diamond Viper V550, the nVidia RIVA TNT. I've stopped using the card; other people have reported good results using the generic drivers available from nVidia's Web site rather than Diamond's driver.

The only Riva TNT card that I haven't seen anyone complain about is the Asus 3400, which uses nVidia's drivers. It also uses active rather than passive cooling of the RAMDAC chip (the chip with the big heatsink on it on the Diamond card) and this seems to help as well, especailly in systems where there might noth be enough air circulation in the case (the Asus has a heatsink/fan cooling system rather than just a heatsink, which helps heat dissipation.)
