Could you have the modal form close the tables first, re-open them exclusive, and restore after the packing?

>I have a formset in which I call a modal form. On this modal form I would like to have a command button to pack all the databases. The calling formset uses some of the same tables as the modal form and I don't want the formset to have exclusive set on. Therefore the modal form can't pack since it can't get exclusive rights to the database because of the formset. Is there a work around or another suggestion
